Sphero Rolls into Target Locations Nationwide

Sphero and Target make a perfect pair. Just think about it. Sphero is round. The Target logo is round. Bullseye, the adorable Target dog, would undoubtedly love Sphero. And in case you didn’t know, Sphero’s favorite color to glow is red. For all these reasons and more, we couldn’t be more excited to announce that you can now purchase Sphero in over 1,200 Target locations nationwide!

To prep for Halloween, Sphero will be rolling through Target in search of ghostly ghouls, colorful pumpkins and handfuls of candy. Follow his adventures on Facebook and Twitter, and don’t forget to check him out in person at a Target location near you or swing by online.

British Royalty Prince Andrew takes Sphero for a Drive

It’s official – Sphero has been in both the hands of the President of the United States and British Royalty! Yesterday at the Founders Forum at The Grove in Hertfordshire, His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, took Sphero for a test drive. After taking a quick spin around the room, the Prince exclaimed that Sphero was great and even tried his hand at Chromo. “This isn’t going to beat me!”, he commented while using Sphero as the controller for the game. After a full five minutes of play, His Royal Highness again called Sphero “great fun” and asked for a Sphero of his own. Soon, he’ll be the master of Chromo with his very own robotic ball. We can’t wait to find out his high score.

Sphero goes to E3: All Your Balls Are Belong To Us

For all the game-enthusiasts out there, Sphero will be making an appearance at the upcoming E3 Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center June 5th-7th. If you’ll be there for the biggest gaming conference in the nation, be sure to keep an eye out for Sphero.

Let us know if you’re around by posting to Facebook or Twitter at @GoSphero. And if you find us at the convention, you just might be able to get your hands on an All Your Balls Are Belong To Us limited edition t-shirt. Hint: you’ll also get a sweet discount on Sphero if you happen to see us around!

On Wednesday night, you can also party with us at Shifted2Reality. Our marketing manager, Chuck, will be doing the opening DJ set – and word on the street is that DJ Sphero will be making his debut and headlining the night. Stop by to catch some robotic beats.

All Systems Are Go for Orbotix – New Financing Round Closed

All lights are green – all systems are go!

A couple of days ago, I was talking to one of our early investors and he said, “Dude – you guys aren’t even on the launch pad yet – you’re still moving the rocket into position.”  And while it feels like our little robot has always been with us, in reality we only started shipping units 5 months ago. We are now just turning on our retail partners and getting started with apps for Sphero.

Nevertheless, we have made great progress to date and now we need to take things to the next level. It’s time to launch the rocket.

That’s why we are proud to announce that on May 23rd, we closed another $5m of financing lead by Foundry Group and Highway 12 Ventures. We are super excited to have their continued support as we grow our business to build the first robotic gaming system, Sphero.

What does that mean for our fans, customers and partners? Well, it just means all our dreams for Sphero are going to be realized. Thanks to everyone for all your support so far – Sphero is only going to get better.  I’m looking forward to sharing all the new apps and developments we have coming in the future. It will be as marvelous and exciting as when we first debuted our prototypes for Sphero back in 2011.

Stay tuned  – more cool things will soon be rolling your way!
